Weaponizing Tax Returns
"The Trump tax return reveal courtesy of NBC News is a fascinating look at how the American media has now become a circus of ideology and cynicism. Someone gave far-left reporter David Cay Johnston two pages of Donald Trump's IRS return from 2005. Old Dave says it simply arrived in his mailbox. What a lucky break! Johnston then gave the document to MSNBC in return for putting him on the air to spout all kinds of gibberish unchallenged. The return shows that Mr. Trump rendered unto Caesar what was legally required. He paid $38-million dollars in federal income tax 12 years ago. But Johnston was indignant anyway. By the way, Mr. Johnston is a quasi-socialist and also said that President Trump himself might have leaked the return, offering absolutely no evidence to support his contention. Before the actual return was shown to the audience, the cable news host Rachel Maddow delivered a twenty minute monologue describing various anti-Trump conspiracy theories that she espouses on a nightly basis. It was kind of hard to follow as she hopped from Azerbaijan to Cyprus to Palm Beach to the U. S. Attorney's office in New York City. There was a Russian oligarch, bad people from Deutschebank and shadowy international transactions. I kept waiting for Donald Trump to appear on the grassy knoll, but that did not happen. Then the real fun started for two full hours as a variety of anti-Trump merry-makers put forth more speculation than a panel at a UFO convention, portraying the president as Doctor Evil bent on destroying Western civilization as he pets his cat. Lost in the 'let's get Trump' marathon was the actual leak, which is a felony if it came from the government. MSNBC will derive ratings from this madness, which it has ever since they turned into the Syfy channel over there. But it is not all about ratings. Those folks want to destroy Donald Trump anyway they can. And they are just getting started."

The Factor asked Charles Krauthammer for his take on the MSNBC non-story. "There is nothing important in the story," Dr. K said, "and it actually redounded to Trump's benefit. The tax return showed that he paid a higher percentage than Obama, Clinton, or that great socialist Bernie Sanders. The over-hyping and presentation were absurd and Rachel Maddow was ridiculed for having botched this. This was like Al Capone's vault."
Live Coverage of Trump in Nashville
The Factor went live to President Trump's rally in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was greeted by a raucous crowd of enthusiastic supporters. "I would much rather spend time with you," the president told his fans, "than any of the pundits, consultants, special interests, or reporters from Washington. It's patriotic Americans like you who make this country run. You pay your taxes, follow our laws, support your communities, love your country, and send your bravest to fight in our wars. All you want is a government that shows you the same loyalty in return." President Trump then reiterated some of his campaign promises: "We're going to reduce your taxes, enforce our trade rules, and bring back our jobs. We're going to support the amazing men and women of law enforcement and defend the Second Amendment. We're going to put our miners and auto workers back to work."

The president then addressed criminal illegal immigrants: "As we speak, we are finding the drug dealers, robbers, thieves, gang members, and killers preying on our citizens. They're being thrown out of our country and we will not let them back in! We're also working night and day to keep our nation safe from terrorism. For this reason, I issued an executive order to temporarily suspend immigration from places where it cannot safely occur. Moments ago I learned that a district judge in Hawaii blocked our executive order on refugees coming in from certain countries. We will fight this terrible ruling all the way to the Supreme Court, we will win, and we will keep our citizens safe. I was elected to change our broken and dangerous system that has left our people defenseless. And I will not stop fighting for the safety of you and your families."

A half hour into his speech, the president finally dealt with the contentious health care proposal, which has come under attack from both right and left: "We are going to repeal and replace horrible, disastrous ObamaCare. If we leave ObamaCare in place, millions and millions of people will be forced off their plans. The insurers are fleeing, it's a catastrophic situation. At the very core of ObamaCare was a fatal flaw - the government forcing people to buy a government-approved product. We want Americans to purchase the health insurance plans they want, and the House has put forward a plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare. We're going to arbitrate, we're going to all get together, and we're going to get something done. The House legislation gives the states Medicaid flexibility and it repeals hundreds of millions of dollars in ObamaCare taxes, and it provides tax credits for people to purchase the care that is rightfully theirs. I'm also going to work on bringing down the cost of medicine by having a fair and competitive bidding process. We welcome this health care debate and we are carrying it out in the full light of day, unlike the way ObamaCare was passed. We cannot be intimidated by the dishonest attacks from the Democratic leaders in Congress. They broke the system in the first place and they don't believe you should be able to make your own health care decisions. If we empower the American people, we will accomplish great things for our country."
Reax to Trump Speech
The Factor again welcomed Charles Krauthammer, who assessed the just-completed Donald Trump speech. "Everyone in Washington," he said, "has been waiting to see whether President Trump would cut himself loose from the Paul Ryan plan for replacing ObamaCare. What I heard tonight was that Trump has decided that he is tied to the mast of this Ryan ship and that is the vehicle with which he will succeed or fail on ObamaCare. He also said he will get in a room and negotiate, so he has some room to appease the conservatives in the House."
New Polling on GOP Healthcare Plan
A new Fox News poll indicates that most Americans are opposed to the Republican plan to replace ObamaCare. Eric Bolling and Geraldo Rivera analyzed the numbers. "Only 34% of Americans approve of the GOP plan to replace ObamaCare," Bolling said, "and that's a disaster. The minute the plan came out I said it was dead on arrival. The biggest problem is that it is not a free market solution and the price of insurance for low income elderly people will go way up. They're going to have to fix it." Rivera agreed that the Ryan plan is in deep trouble. "The problem is the philosophical concept. Do we Americans owe our fellow Americans health care? The Ryan plan takes the middle of the road, but the middle of the road is road kill. This is dead on arrival because the right doesn't want to pay for poor people and the left wants more than the Ryan plan is willing to give. Ryan attempted a compromise, but it pleased nobody!"

Factor Words of the Day
Earl Hoellen, Cherry Hills Village, CO: "Bill, thanks for rejecting the loons. We've always had hysterical people, but the amount of hate since the election has made rational debate all but impossible."

Sharon Strasbaugh, San Diego, CA: "Bill, please continue to interview the loons. You are the only one who exposes them."

Lori Kostors, East Wenatchee, WA: "O'Reilly, just want you to know that not all Washingtonians support the governor's liberal policies. Folks in the eastern part of the state might as well be on Mars."
