Irrational Thinking & Hysterical Debates
Guests: Juan Williams & Lisa Boothe
For those of you who have watched The Factor over the years, you have seen a change on the show. Your humble correspondent used to slug it out with almost anyone - no matter how crazy they sounded. But as of late, we don't do that much anymore because the irrationality and dishonesty of some zealots can bring the show down. Last night, such a guest did an interview with Martha MacCallum. The guest is a film director who made a movie about Michael Brown's murder in Ferguson, Missouri. Instead of making solid points, Mr. Pollock went off the rails and disrespected Martha. Tonight we'll show you some of that interview and talk about why it's become so difficult to get through to some folks.
Health Care Debate Troubles
The Republican health care plan is under fire from the right. The Factor asked Karl Rove to explain conservative opposition to the proposal. "Some people don't want to have a replacement bill," he began, "they want to have a straight repeal. They want to kill the system entirely and take time to replace it entirely, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. There is also a principled objection to refundable tax credits for those who buy health insurance out of their own pockets." Rove theorized that President Trump is handling the issue properly. "He's doing this the right way, he's got Dr. Tom Price working with Republicans in the house to keep an open line of communication to critics. If that process goes forward, good things can happen."
Combat Zones and the Yemen Raid
The Factor asked Col. David Hunt to explain just what happened in the Yemen raid that led to the death of Navy SEAL William Owens. "In late January members of SEAL Team Six," Hunt reported, "hit a compound in southern Yemen with about 30 guys. There was a village that had a lot more terrorists and people with guns than they expected. The SEALs engaged in a firefight and had to call in helicopters and jets. About 12 civilians were killed, we lost Owens, and we lost a helicopter. This was an intelligence gathering operation and they got hard drives and intel." Hunt turned to the latest situation in Iraq. "Three years ago we had 250 combat soldiers in Iraq, and now we have about 10,000 with more going into Kuwait. There are more than 5,000 Americans fighting in Mosul, which is the toughest fighting in the world."
Fake News Targets Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg is threatening legal action after a website falsely claimed she criticized the widow of Navy SEAL William Owens. 'The Five' co-host Dana Perino elaborated on the story. "This was done by a young man named James McDaniel," she reported, "who is a Floridian living in Costa Rica. He launched a website called 'The Underground Report' and he claimed that Whoopi Goldberg said the widow of William Owens was seeking attention, which she did not do. Whoopi Goldberg has a lot of relationships with veterans and she was overwhelmed by this, she says her personal safety and that of her family were in danger." The Factor concluded, "Whoopi is absolutely right and she has every right to be outraged."
Sanctuary State Murder
In another outrageous murder in a sanctuary state, Jill Marie Sundberg was shot and killed by illegal immigrants in Washington State, where Governor Jay Inslee has ordered his troopers not to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. Legal analysts Kimberly Guilfoyle and Eboni Williams elaborated on the grisly crime. "This woman was at a party in an RV park," Guilfoyle said, "and at some point there was some kind of altercation between Ms. Sundberg and one of the defendants. He and his friends took her to an isolated area, kicked her to her knees, and shot her 13 times. All five involved were here illegally." Williams explained how the suspected killer, Gustavo Tapia Rodriguez, was free. "He didn't show up to court and there was no order for his arrest. It's far different than how the three of us would be treated."
Snow Day in NYC
Bernard McGuirk and Greg Gutfeld, both of whom braved the snowstorm, trudged into the No Spin Zone to opine on the blizzard. "The media played it up huge," Gutfeld groused, "but then when it didn't affect them directly, they got kind of mad. They literally live in a bubble, and it's one of those snow globes. I blame it on Donald Trump - Mother Nature, a woman, is registering her disgust at the president and failed to show up for work." McGuirk, clad in a monstrous fur hat, agreed that the storm was overplayed because it hit the America's media capital. "If Scott Pelley and Lester Holt and Shep Smith have to wait an extra ten minutes for their car service, that's why we all panic. If this were Detroit or Chicago it would not be a big deal."

Factor Words of the Day
Betty Utterback, New Carrolton, MD: "Horray for you, Bill O'Reilly. Your Talking Points Memo explained the healthcare situation so clearly."

Kate Minyard, Auburn, CA: "Now students can't weigh themselves at a college gym because it triggered some negative feelings? Triggered is a serious concept in mental health but should not be used because the coffee shop is out of almond milk."

Ronald Durika, Derry, PA: "What's next? Should we get rid of all the mirrors? We a nation which is overweight, oversensitive, and overbearing."
